What Nutrition Books Do You Recommend?
Recently one of my clients asked me what fitness nutrition books I recommend. Well, other than the one that I authored and the other that I co-authored, there are a few that I highly recommended to him. I thought I'd also recommend these books to you today. I've also included a list of what I'm currently reading in case you are curious. Let's get to it: •'What to Eat' by Marion Nestle: the straight scoop on food, how nutrition research is influenced by food industry lobbyists and politics. It's author, Nestle, has a great reputation as an expert and researcher. I've found 'What to Eat' to be balanced, scientific thinking on how to eat to be healthy. I don't agree with every single thing in it, but this book is a refreshingly non-biased, objective and reasonable view of how we need to eat to stay healthy. This book is about health, not weight management, sports nutrition, or fat loss. •'Eating for Life' by Bill Phillips: the best and most realistic healthy eating guide and fat loss recipe book I've found for most people. My fiancee and I rely on this each week. •I also utilize Gregg Avedon's 'Muscle Chow' book quite often. 'Muscle Chow' is a little more strict than 'Eating for Life' and is geared towards men and/or people who are used to eating at the 'Eating for Life' level and are ready to take the next step. •'Everything You Need to Know about Fat Loss' by Chris Aceto: the best book I've ever read dealing with exactly what it takes to lose fat and keep it off. I review this about twice per year and always come away with a deeper understanding. Every time that a client or I goes against the principles of this book, we start heading in the wrong direction. In case your are curious, here's a list of other books I'm reading right now (broken down by category). Remember, I read A LOT and often read books that have opposite philosphies than mine so I can further my understanding...so don't think that these are necessarily recommendations: Current health and fitness related reading: •The Metabolism Advantage written by my colleague Dr. John Berardi •Muscle, Speed, and Lies by David Lightsey •The Best Alternative Medicine by Dr. Kenneth Pelletier •The Power of Story by Dr. Jim Loehr (this one deals with the psychology of peak performance) •Handbook of Obesity Treatment by Thomas Wadden and Albert Stunkard •Current business related reading: •Hiring the Best by Martin Yate •The Rules of Management by Richard Templar •What Got You Here Won't Get You There by Marshall Goldsmith Definitely check out the first few that I've highlighted. I believe you will receive much benefit from them. And remember, don't just read, put the principles to work!
